Rail Strike Traffic Effects

So this Sunday and Monday there is supposed to be a rail strike. Obviously this is going to put a huge amount of extra traffic on the cities streets for everyone commuting on Monday morning. We are expecting there to be delays on every major inbound route and across the city as a result.

Monday

The best advice is to leave at least 20 minutes earlier than you normally would, if you normally drive to work.
Where possible car pool and take any available buses
Luas park and ride facilities are brilliant so if you can use one do.
Of course keep an eye on our twitter feed and tune into 103.2 DCFM from 7 - 10 in the morning and from 4 - 7 in the evening.

Sunday

Sunday brings a whole host of other issues. Kerry are up against Mayo in Croke Park. With no rail transport we will now see fans driving to the city in much larger numbers than we would have anticipated. The N7 and N4 will take the brunt of these delays.

N7 traffic can expect to be the worst hit by the extra volumes as the works at Newlands Cross will have a serious impact on drivers. Best advice is to cut over to the N81 and come in that way.

The N4 will probably only really see delays approaching Palmerstown Lights and then from Con Colbert Road all down the North Quays.

Both sets of fans will converge on the North Quays and Concolbert Rd so you can expect Inchicore to be pretty heavy as well.

Luas will operate as normal so save yourself the pain and use the park and ride facilities to Connolly station and walk up to Croker from there.

There is an added surprise for anyone driving around the city centre this Sunday, Beckett Bridge will be closed form 9 int eh morning to midnight. This is going to add to delays around Beresford Place and Pearse St.

IMPORTANT Newlands Cross Diversions

Newlands Cross underpass is closed due to concrete pouring. As a result Belgard Rd and Fonthill Rd are left turn only and there is no right turn from the N7 outbound to the Fonthill Rd.

We are expecting there to be severe delays later, on both the Belgard Rd and Fonthill Rd and also added delays on the N7 inbound and outbound approaching Newlands Cross.

Our best advice for the evening is to avoid Newlands Cross altogether and use the Outer Ring Rd.

Diversions:

To drive form the Fonthill Rd to Belgard Rd or to the  N7 outbound, turn left at Newlands Cross then loop around on the Luas Bridge to the N7 outbound and on to Newlands Cross where you can either turn left onto the Belgard Rd or keep driving straight out on the N7

To get from the Belgard Rd to Fonthill Rd or N7 inbound. Turn left at the Belgard Rd then loop back around at J2 Kingswood, where you can either keep driving straight on or turn left at Newlands Cross onto the Fonthill Rd.

N7 Outbound to Fonthill Rd must also loop back around at J2 Kingswood and turn left at Newlands Cross onto the Fonthill Rd.

Stay tuned to 103.2 FM for updates.
