Giro D’Italia Road Race Event

It's one of the biggest sporting events in Europe and it is coming to Ireland and most importantly for us in Live Drive it is coming to Dublin. 

Of course there will be a number of roads closed to facilitate the race and a number of rolling closures as it makes it's way into town.

Road Closures:

Location 1: Merrion Square South from 20.00hrs on Thursday 8th May 2014 to 23.00hrs on Sunday 11th May 2014.

Location 2: Merrion Square West, Merrion Square East, Merrion Street Upper, Fitzwilliam Street Lower and Mount Street Upper from 20.00hrs on Friday 9th to 23.00hes on Sunday 11th May 2014. 


Location 3: Howth Road (from Kilbarrack Road to James Larkin Road), James Larkin Road, Clontarf Road, Alfie Byrne Road, East Wall Road, North Wall Quay, Custom House Quay, City Quay, Lombard Street, Westland Row, Lincoln Place, Merrion Street Lower, Clare Street, Leinster Street South, Merrion Square North from 13.30hrs to 17.00hrs on Sunday 11th May 2014.


Traffic Management Plan
The main event will take place on Sunday afternoon 11th May. However, there will be temporary road closures in on Merrion Square area (to prepare the Finish Line), starting on Merrion Square South on Thursday night 8th May and then extending to Merrion Square East & West etc on Friday night 9th May, during which the following diversions will be in operation

Traffic from Clare Street & Merrion Street Lower wishing to travel on Merrion Square West to Baggot St Lower will be diverted via Merrion Square North, Mount St Lower, Warrington Place and Herbert Place.

Traffic on Merrion Square North & Holles St wishing to travel on Merrion Square East & Fitzwilliam St Lower to Fitzwilliam St Upper will be diverted via Mount St Lower, Warrington Place, Herbert Place and Baggot Street Lower.

Traffic on Fitzwilliam St Upper wishing to travel on Fitzwilliam St Lower & Merrion Square East to Holles St & Merrion Square North will be diverted via Baggot Street Lower, Herbert Place, Warrington St and Mount St Lower.

Traffic on Merrion Row wishing to travel on Merrion St Upper & Merrion Square West to Merrion Square North will be diverted via Baggot St Lower, Herbert Place, Warrington St and Mount St Lower.

Rolling Road Closures:

On Sunday afternoon 11th May, for the race, there will be road closures along the coast route on Howth Road, from Kilbarrack Rd, onto James Larkin Rd, Clontarf Road, Alfie Byrne Road, East Wall Rd, North Wall Quay, Custom House Quay, Talbot Memorial Bridge, City Quay, Lombard Street, Westland Row, Merrion St Lower, all Merrion Square, and adjoining roads from 13.30 hrs. However, temporary vehicular crossing points will be maintained at the following junctions: James Larkin Rd / Causway road, East Rd / Merchants Road / East Wall Rd, Guild St / Samuel Beckett Bridge, Memorial Rd / Custom House / Talbot Memorial Bridge and Lombard St / Townsend St / Pearse St, until approx 20 minutes before the race approaches.

Pedestrian access will be maintained.
