Closure of North Wall Quay Thursday and Friday

The European Peoples Conference will be rolling into town on Thursday and Friday, it will see 1,500 delegates, 16 heads of government, 600 Journalists, 73 member parties from 40 different countries, 13 members of the European commission and Angela Merkel.

Throw in a protest on Thursday evening from round 6 and you know you've got all the elements for some traffic disruptions in the city centre.

The whole thing takes place in the national Convention centre

On Thursday the 6th March a traffic management plan including local traffic restrictions will be put in place at the front and rear of the Convention Centre Dublin (CCD) on North Wall Quay. 

A number of "lay-bys” will be created outside the CCD to facilitate the arrival of 1500 delegates & the media arriving at the venue. At this time traffic flows will be maintained if possible in all directions on North Wall Quay.

At 6:30pm approximately on Thursday the traffic management plan will begin to restrict the movement of traffic in front of the CCD. North Wall Quay will close between Guild Street and East Wall Road at the O2. A number of additional local temporary diversions will also be put in place to facilitate the arrival of VIPs.

It should be borne in mind that pedestrian restrictions from approaching the CCD will be in place so residents / employees should have a form of ID to ease access to their place of employment & residences.

Friday the 7th March

Friday is a normal business day and Gardaí do not anticipate any significant issues in this regard. A small number of road closures local traffic restrictions will be in place around the convention centre. Public transport in the areas will run as normal.

On Friday the 7th March the traffic management plan will again be implemented from early morning to early afternoon and will restrict the movement of traffic in front of the CCD. North Wall Quay will close between Guild Street and East Wall Road. A number of additional local temporary diversions will also be put in place to facilitate the arrival of VIPs.

Vehicles accessing the CCD, Spencer Dock & PWC Complexes will be allowed local access via the O2 Direction & Guild Street / Mayor St. Drivers to have ID in their possession.

Pedestrians are urged to utilise the same routes.

Diversions:

· When traffic is restricted at North Wall Quay from the O2 to Guild Street / Samuel Becket Bridge, general traffic east/west will be diverted via Sheriff Street.

· VMS Signage will be utilised at diversion points

· LOCAL ACCESS will as far as possible be allowed during the event / Any associated protests

· On Thursday / Friday the travelling public are urged to utilise public transport as far as possible to the IFSC & North Wall.

· Persons working in the vicinity of the CCD are requested to carry some form of Identification to ease access through Garda Barriers.

· Traffic Diversions will only be put in place when necessary and lifted as soon as possible.

Live feeds to FB & Twitter will be updated as soon as traffic situation changes.

Gardai will be on duty at relevant locations so as road closures can be implemented/lifted at short notice.
