Luas Works - Here We Go!

Luas works are beginning in earnest this month with significant changes kicking off.

Eden Quay & Burgh Quay

Works on Eden Quay which were scheduled to begin on the 17th have been pushed back to Friday the 21st of February.

These works will see Eden Quay being reduced to one lane at night but maintaining two lanes during the day. This is to resurface the road and lay the Luas track that will cross the quay.

Burgh Quay works are scheduled to begin on March 3rd and will also see the quay reduced to one lane at night and two lanes during the day.

We saw Burgh Quay reduced to two lanes in the past but it didn't have a significant impact on normal traffic patterns, lets hope that continues this time around.

Dawson St

The biggest change we are going to see and the one that might have the largest impact on traffic is going to take place on Dawson St.

From Tuesday the 25th of February Dawson St will be reduced to one lane between Stephens Green and Molesworth St. This will be the right side of Dawson St, at the end of June the works will switch sides.

Plenty of taxi drivers have been in touch with the show, the rank on Dawson St will be suspended and moved to Molesworth St.

Bus stops will be moved to the north end of dawson St, Aircoach and the Glendalough tour couac will be moved to the entrance to Royal Hibernian Way.

Local access to car parks will be maintained and a 24 hour two truck will be on site should any one be unfortunate enough to break down.

Footpaths will be reduced however access to all shops and restaurants will be maintained.

This is of course going to impact on traffic so how to avoid it if this is your normal route?

A couple of options are available:

Leeson St inbound turning right onto Stephens Green East then follow the new right turn to Merrion Row, from there you can make your way down to Pearse St etc.

Otherwise if you are on Stephens Green South to Stephens Green West to access the Car parks and Mercer Street.
