Disruption to Dublin City Water Supply This Weekend

We were reporting the burst water main on Market St South, emergency works are in place at the moment to try and repair it.

This may cause a loss of water pressure from today, Friday 28th February 2014 until Sunday, March 2nd 2014

The areas most likely to be worst affected include:

· North of the Liffey : Cabra; Glasnevin; Phibsboro; Drumcondra; parts of Doneycarney; Santry and parts of Beaumont;
· South of the Liffey: Heuston area south to Thomas St and east to Bridgefoot St.

Please click on the following link to view a detailed map of the areas affected

http://bit.ly/1kgFEhV

Work began on the repairs at 6.30am this morning and is likely to continue well into Sunday evening.

If required, water tankers will be made available for customers. Locations of tankers will be detailed in updates throughout the weekend, through press releases, on our website at www.dublincity.ie and on Twitter @DubCityCouncil.

Luas Works - Here We Go!

Luas works are beginning in earnest this month with significant changes kicking off.

Eden Quay & Burgh Quay

Works on Eden Quay which were scheduled to begin on the 17th have been pushed back to Friday the 21st of February.

These works will see Eden Quay being reduced to one lane at night but maintaining two lanes during the day. This is to resurface the road and lay the Luas track that will cross the quay.

Burgh Quay works are scheduled to begin on March 3rd and will also see the quay reduced to one lane at night and two lanes during the day.

We saw Burgh Quay reduced to two lanes in the past but it didn't have a significant impact on normal traffic patterns, lets hope that continues this time around.

Dawson St

The biggest change we are going to see and the one that might have the largest impact on traffic is going to take place on Dawson St.

From Tuesday the 25th of February Dawson St will be reduced to one lane between Stephens Green and Molesworth St. This will be the right side of Dawson St, at the end of June the works will switch sides.

Plenty of taxi drivers have been in touch with the show, the rank on Dawson St will be suspended and moved to Molesworth St.

Bus stops will be moved to the north end of dawson St, Aircoach and the Glendalough tour couac will be moved to the entrance to Royal Hibernian Way.

Local access to car parks will be maintained and a 24 hour two truck will be on site should any one be unfortunate enough to break down.

Footpaths will be reduced however access to all shops and restaurants will be maintained.

This is of course going to impact on traffic so how to avoid it if this is your normal route?

A couple of options are available:

Leeson St inbound turning right onto Stephens Green East then follow the new right turn to Merrion Row, from there you can make your way down to Pearse St etc.

Otherwise if you are on Stephens Green South to Stephens Green West to access the Car parks and Mercer Street.

Maps of the area and alternative routes available HERE

IMPORTANT Changes to Newlands Cross inbound from Wednesday Morning

There will be a significant layout change to the N7 Naas Road inbound late Tuesday night.

This will have a big effect on N7 inbound traffic Wednesday morning.

Here are the changes:

The N7 inbound traffic will be diverted onto new temporary lanes. The diversion will start from the Boot Road junction with the N7. There will still be 3 traffic lanes in place, in addition to the right and left turn filter lanes onto Fonthill and Belgard Roads (as per the existing layout). Road markings will be orange to show they are temporary.

There is a 60kph statutory speed limit in place through the works area. We strongly urge all road users to comply with the 60 kph speed limit and it will be enforced by Gardai.

These changes are put in pace between 9.30 PM and 6 AM there will be disruptions to traffic on the N7, Belgard Rd and Fonthill Rd.

As traffic settles into this new layout over the coming days there will be delays to traffic on the N7, the Fonthill road and the Belgard road.

When changes were made to the outbound lanes, there were significant delays to traffic for the first day, with delays easing off the next day. We expect this to be the case for Wednesday.

Stay tuned to 103.2 DCFM and check our twitter feed early.

ESB will Release Water From Poulaphoca For The Coming Weeks

This is not going to put those living in Ringsend and along the Liffey at ease.

Due to the significant rainfall recently, the Poulaphouca reservoir waters levels have risen sharply.

Overnight, the level on Poulaphouca has risen  to 186.2m OD Poolbeg and is continuing to rise.

For the foreseeable future, the ESB will therefore be releasing water from Poulaphoca reservoir to reduce the level.

As far as possible the ESB have stated that they will be releasing these waters so as not to coincide with floods in the middle Liffey and any high tide issues in Dublin.

However, if the level continues to rise, continuous discharges could be required.

Overall, the levels of discharge from Poulaphouca will depend on rainfall over the next period, the level of the reservoir and the weather forecast.

The ESB is working in close co-operation with all the councils along the Liffey and is constant communication with them regarding water management on the Liffey.

As well as the weekly texts, ESB will be issuing more frequent texts updating the councils on the situation on the Liffey.

It is likely that this situation will persist for a number of weeks.
