Dubs Homecoming Event Merrion Square

There's a big celebration this evening in Merrion Square for all Ireland Champions Dublin. Fans will get their chance to celebrate with the Dublin Senior Football team as All Ireland Champions 2013. A special event hosted by Dublin’s Lord Mayor, Oisín Quinn and Dublin City Council for the team, backroom staff, Dublin County Board and the many true blue Dublin fans.

For many of you this is going to be a great family friendly evening and then for the rest of you who normally drive around Merrion Square this is going to be pretty inconvenient.

Traffic restrictions have been in place since place from 6 Am this morning on Merrion Square East and South and on Mount Street Upper and Fitzwilliam Street Lower.

Crowds will start to gather from 6 but as restrictions are already in place we expect delays in the area throughout the evening.

With works in place on St Stephens Green putting pressure on Dawson St and  Ely Place tonight's celebration is likely to put a lot of pressure on the area.

Expect greater volume on Pearse St and surrounding roads, but also on  Nassau St the Grand Canal, Leeson St and St Stephens Green.

The best thing is to stay tuned to 103.2 Dublin City FM and to our twitter feed twitter.com/livedrive

Car vs Bike vs Bus

These pictures are taken from a webiste dedicated to cycling in Muenster Germany, and they're pretty interesting visual to the numbers.

* Bicycle: 72 people are transported on 72 bikes, which requires 90 square meters.
* Car: Based on an average occupancy of 1.2 people per car, 60 cars are needed to transport 72 people, which takes 1,000 square meters.
* Bus: 72 people can be transported on 1 bus, which only requires 30 square meters of space and no permanent parking space, since it can be parked elsewhere

Charity Bet Update

A few months ago when the first few names were being bandied about for the Luas Bridge we contact Paddy Power and asked if they'd be interested in placing a charity bet on the possibly outcome of the process.

They were more than obliging and we placed two €50 bets. One on Rosie Hacket at 4/1 and one on Ernest Walton at 10/1

With Rosie Hacket being the winning choice and a very popular one at that the good people at Paddy Power forked out €250 which we donated to the even better people at Womens Aid.

Changes To Stephens Green For Luas Cross City

Dublin City Council has announced a new traffic scheme that should make travelling in the St. Stephen’s Green area easier during the works for Luas Cross City which will begin in 2014.

The St. Stephen’s Green Traffic Management Scheme works will start on the 9th of September and all work should be completed by late November this year.

The new arrangements will make it easier for public and private transport to travel around St. Stephen’s Green, while also improving access to car parks in the area and reducing the need to use Dawson Street as a through route.

The most significant changes are new right turns at St. Stephen’s Green’s junctions with Harcourt St and Merrion Row. Other improvements will include new cycle lanes, pedestrian crossings, dublinbikes stations and measures which will improve bus operations around St. Stephen’s Green.

The improvements will be staggered so as to minimise disruptions to local businesses and stakeholders. Some disruptions will occur during the works but the public and businesses will be able to access the area and all car parks throughout the works.
